Frontera Land Alliance

The Frontera September 2014 Update

Land and Water

Want to know what Frontera’s Water and Land Conservation Focus is? Read on.
Frontera’s Board of Directors held a Strategic Land Conservation retreat in the month of September. It was amazing how the energy and knowledge in the room all focused on the future of our region. Frontera works in southern New Mexico, Hudspeth, El Paso, and Culberson counties. Frontera has the direction it needs to effectively preserve scenic views, farms, ranches, critical open space and the historic character of the built and unbuilt environment. By identifying specific lands we will now be able to meet and share the irreplaceable value of the land with the landowners. The Strategic Land Conservation plan will enable Frontera to seek funding specific sources and enhance the protection of lands. (Thanks to Winton Flair, Tres & Associates and City of El Paso GIS Department for sponsoring the retreat.)

The State Employees’ Charitable Campaign Agency Fair at UTEP: Frontera will be there. The Frontera Land Alliance is now listed as one of the many charities on the State Employees’ Charitable Campaign. Please stop by our booth on October 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tomas Rivera Conference Center, University Union to meet Frontera staff, volunteers and learn more about our current projects and programs. And don’t forget to support Frontera!
Save the date for a Resler Canyon Work Day: Saturday, November 8, 2014 starting at 8 a.m. for a Resler Canyon work day. Come out and join us install the remaining wattles, pick up trash that blows in and is dumped by passers-by, and meet some great people!
TXSER & SER-SW, Joint Annual Conference, Ecological Restoration in the Southwest is being held October 17-19, 2014 at Alpine, Texas on the campus of Sul Ross State University. Frontera has submitted an abstract and plans to present. The presentation will be on making Castner Range a part of the FMSP and the methods available to accomplish this goal. Castner has the ability to provide benefits to veterans and impact the local quality of life and the economy through private and public partnerships.
Keep an eye out for Frontera’s Annual Fall Request. This year we are working to grow the Frontera Thunder Canyon Endowment Fund, but if you wish to give to general operations or other programs or projects, just make a note on the check. Also you are always welcome to donate online. Thank you all for all that you do!!

Castner Range
