The Frontera September 2016 Update

Land Trust Alliance Video Contest:
By uploading a brief video of what land means to you, all participants will have a chance to win $1,000, $2,000 or $4,000. The best part is that the top winner will also designate the land trust of their choice (it could be Frontera!!) to receive the grand prize of $10,000 from the Land Trust Alliance. The contest ends November 11, 2016, and only requires participants to create a brief, two-minute-or-less video on what land means to them.  The public will vote for their favorites until the end of the contest. From the top 10 videos with the most votes, an independent contest panel will award the top three prizes. Download sample messaging and social media art . And for more information or to check out sample videos, visit the website.

Thunder Canyon Guided Hike will be held Saturday, October 15th from 9:00-10:00 a.m.  We will meet at east end of the Oak Cliff Street in the parking area. The round-trip hike is one mile long and is relatively easy, though the surface is rocky and some of the ground is uneven. Contact Information: Scott Cutler, (915) 494-2193.

Rainwater Harvesting Workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, October 9th at 701 Rim Road, El Paso, TX 79902. Part classroom, part hands-on. There will be a presentation and then a tour of an ongoing water-harvesting project, followed by an opportunity to install some features yourself. We will see cisterns, large and small, earthworks—easy to complex—and laundry-to- landscape gray-water systems. Learn how to install rainwater-harvesting earthworks and cisterns, how to plant native flora, and how to have lots of fun while doing so. Water, refreshments and lunch will be provided.  Bring gloves, sunscreen and possibly your preferred bug repellent. Space is limited so please RSVP to Mike Gaglio at 915.490.8601 or by Facebook by October 6th at: https://www.facebook.com/events/684254075064540/
